This website is our live seo case study, first setup around 2006, we did have top positioning as one of the first web design agencies on the scene. However, what with our focus on other projects, swindon-website-design.co.uk was largely abandoned and neglected over the last ten years or more.
2023 Swindon Search Positioning Challenge
Fast forward to 2023 and while looking for something to do, I’ve rebuilt the frontend and given myself the challenge of fixing the search positioning. Here is the process we use:
1. Select Keywords You Want to Rank For
To start with, select a handful of keywords that you’d like to rank for.
The keywords we selected are the services that we offer, in the location where we are based, so no problem with identifying them, but you may want to spend more time thinking about the best keywords to use. Here is our list, number shown is rank at time of writing.
- swindon website design / 64th
- swindon wordpress website / 12th
- swindon website hosting / 38th
- swindon search optimisation /85th
- swindon seo / not in top 100
2. Create a Page for Each Keyword
Next create pages or posts for each keyword, we already had some we’d prepared earlier that we’ll be refreshing, in addition we’ll be adding new ones.
3. Optimise Using a Checklist
Search optimisation isn’t that complicated, but it does take time. Edit each page and go through a checklist as follows:
- page title to contain the keyword
- use the keyword in the url
- include the keyword in the page description
- add the keyword somewhere in the first paragraph or so
- use an image and add the keyword as the alt tag
- add content with around 600 words
There are a few points in the checklist and using an seo plugin will help to guide you through the process.

19.11.2023
Bad news, just checked the rankings and they are down slightly for the 5 keywords, 57th, 12th, 44th and >100. The new pages have not been indexed yet.
25.11.2023
Good news, positioning is up, 46th, 8th and 31st though still not ranking for search positioning. It’s taken around two weeks for the positioning to move, the new pages are still unindexed. This page updated with chart and optimised to 81%.
04.12.2023
Pages that had been created over two weeks ago, although visible in the site map, have not been indexed by Google, therefore requested indexing via Search Console.
06.12.2023
Following indexing request via Search Console, the pages are now indexed.
