Where to start from with such a topic one knows very well, what is of interest to you depends on your point of view, there are a few obvious options,
a) web design from an artistic perspective,
b) from a business perspective, for making money,
c) from a social perspective, how does it serve us all,
d) an IT perspective, what new features and functionality does it have,
e) even from the perspective of someone who knows nothing about website design!

From the perspective of myself and my team, it seems most of us work with website design because we enjoy it, either from a design side or a technical side. What seemed incredible to me at the time when it all started, was the fact that we could just write anything at all and publish it so it was available to millions. As opinions, voices and words multiply across the new electronic terrain, there are seismic shifts taking place, amongst them the democratisation of publishing and knowledge.

Within that shift, website design as a business continues to survive, it’s easy now to put a website together in a few hours, but the website designer is needed just like the gardener who might be called in to dig a hole or redo the entire garden using a new system, for commercial benefit or artistic appeal.

Anyway, enough of our website design notes, was going to put some links up, so will get back to this later.

As web designers, here are some resources we find very useful,

Google.co.uk, invaluable for search, answers, web master tools, analytics, place information, maps and revenue from ad sales.

SitePro News, great articles on managing, maintaining and promoting websites.

Colour Picker, great tool for finding colour, colour schemes and colour values (hex, rgb and cmyk).

What the Font? Ever wondered what font someone is using? Trying to find a similar font? What the font is an excellent little application which quickly identified an alternative font we could use and saved us paying a premium to get the same result!
